Bright Minds And Bright Futures

Although the Class of 2012 won’t enter the job market for quite a few months, inside sales director Kristin Terdik and recruiter Linda Ceriello are already planning ahead. They’re working to identify and develop career and internship opportunities for neighboring NC State University students and grads with an Advisory Board including:

  • Marcy Bullock, Director of Career Services
  • Ron Campbell Ph.D., International AgriBusiness Law /Advanced AgriBusiness Law
  • Jim Flowers Ph.D., Department Head, Department of Agriculture and Extension Education
  • Arnie Oltmans Ph.D., Associate Professor, Agricultural and Resource Economics
  • Fred Parker, Assistant Professor – Agricultural and Resource Economics
  • Jonathan Phillips M.S., Senior Lecturer, Human Resources and Economics
  • John Russ, Ph.D, Lecturer – Agricultural and Resource Economics
  • Guido van der Hoeven M.S., Extension Specialist/Senior Lecturer
  • W. Edward Weems, Permanent Lecturer, Marketing, MIE, ARE

“Our goal is to prepare students with what is needed in the employment market. I am glad we had the time to discuss mutual concerns, issues and opportunities as classes kick off this week,” said van der Hoeven.

The group met yesterday for their (6th) annual luncheon to discuss an upcoming open house for students and professors, hosted by Technekes, titled “Career Preparation In An Unstable Job Market.”   Linda and Kristin were spurred on by Professor Phillips, who said, “With its own library and constant employee improvement programs; Technekes is a practical training ground nestled in a desirable work environment with upward mobility.”

Technekes also earned high marks from Dr. Campbell, “Your company is on the cutting edge of many advances in the field and is earning a strong reputation.”

Thanks, professors!  We’d blush — but we’ve got to get back to work, so we can live up to your kind words!

A League Of Our Own

Look what showed up on the Jumbotron at a recent Durham Bulls minor league baseball game!

The Technekes MIC (Marketing Interaction Center) team donned caps, shades, gloves and sunblock before heading out to watch the Bulls take on the Pawtucket Red Sox, Monday, June 6.

“It was a fun day to catch up with colleagues,” said team member Latavia Paul. “We don’t all work together, so it was great to get out and sit side-by-side.”

Although the home team couldn’t pull out a win, Lisimba Tafirenyika put it well, “I really appreciate the love. How many bosses will take you out to the ball game?”

Special thanks to Tim Parry for sharing the terrific photo!

A Vacation By Any Other Name …

You can take the girl out of the office, but from the looks of it, you can’t take the office out of Jen Potenzano.

On a recent trip to Indiana, Jen took time out of her vacation to visit Fair Oaks Farm and learn a little more about sustainable and responsible dairy farming.

According to Jen, Fair Oaks is a great place to tour, featuring:

  • Ten farms housing 3,000 animals each.
  • Each farm has a 72-cow carousel milking parlor
  • On average, 80 calves born daily
  • Methane as a source of power for the farm and 7,500 homes
  • A 3D interactive theater
  • A shop selling fresh milk, homemade ice cream and specialty butter.

Talk about going above and beyond! If only Jen could’ve brought us back some of that farm-fresh ice-cream!

An Exceptionally Satisfying Afternoon

Warning!  This post will make your mouth start watering!

Crystal’s team members in Raleigh come from all corners of the world, but they have no problem finding common ground – food!

Last week, the team was the envy of everyone else at Technekes, as they hosted their own international potluck meal.  Each team member prepared and served something from the country of their choice, and some truly exotic items were dished up, including:

  • Garlic chicken with oriental rice
  • Spinach lasagna
  • Corned beef and cabbage
  • Stuffed Peruvian jalapenos
  • Tandoori chicken wraps
  • Baked spaghetti
  • Chicken cordon bleu casserole
  • Caribbean gateau cake

Great company and great food does more than satisfy appetites, of course.  It also brings coworkers together, helping them to know each other better, which is one of the top 10 ways to be happy at work.  Based on that single afternoon, then, Crystal’s team should be among the happiest around!

Could this be the beginning of a new tradition at Technekes? Bon appétit!

The “MIC” — Our Own Marketing Interaction Center

This is the second post in our new series on Sprockets, telling more about the departments at Technekes.

Your phone rings, showing a number you don’t recognize. What’s the first thing you think?

We know.  We’ve all heard from those “robotic” callers. Disinterested callers.  Improperly and incompletely trained callers.

That’s exactly why Technekes has its own Marketing Interaction Center — the MIC.

Yes, the MIC is a structured call center, but it’s also a place where innovation thrives.  (It is located, after all, in Research Triangle Park — the leading research and biotech center in the US.)  We hire top level talent — folks with degrees and specific job experience in the industry.  We’ve got ag folks with their own farms.  Financial services folks working on MBAs.  And healthcare folks with years of pharma experience.

Our 13,000 square foot facility is unlike any marketing interaction center you’ve ever seen.  Our associates go through extensive and ongoing training to ensure we can engage in dynamic conversations with clients and prospects.  A customer never feels that he or she is talking to someone who doesn’t know or doesn’t care.  In fact, your customer knows it’s you, as soon as the phone rings, because your caller ID — not ours — is programmed in.

We care.  We listen.  We engage.  We learn.  And we share what we learn with our clients.

Among our services:

•  Branded calling on a client’s behalf

•  800 inbound/outbound

•  Click to chat

•  Appointment setting

•  Multi-lingual support

We’d welcome the chance to tell you more and let you know how the MIC might fit into your marketing program.   Just let us know you’re interested by commenting on this post or calling the MIC directly at 919.747.8031.
